We are happy to announce that Dr. Scott McDonald will be back at Bird Is The Word performing his well bird checkups on Wednesday April 15th, from 10am to 8pm. We are now taking appointments and his schedule is filling up fast, so give us a call if you’d like to book a spot. Please remember to fast your birds 4 hours prior to your appointment time, transport them in an appropriate carrier, & bring a towel Dr Scott can use with the bird during the appointment. As always, Dr. Scott prefers cash for payment & the store fee is also due at the time of your appointment. ($10 for the 1st 2 birds, $5 every additional bird after that)
While Mother Nature is figuring out what she’s doing, we’ve got some SPRING PARROT TIPS for you. In the Spring, parrots experience increased activity levels and hormonal changes, making it crucial for owners to provide them with adequate exercise and mental stimulation. Here are some tips to ensure your parrot thrives during the Spring months.
-
Daily Exercise: Ensure your parrot has access to a variety of toys and activities to keep them physically active. We have all kinds of toys available in the store to help with this.
-
Nutrition: Maintain a consistent feeding schedule and provide a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and seeds. We have a variety of seed available as well as our homemade fresh CHOP!
-
Habitat: Create a safe and spacious environment with perches, toys, and a clean cage. We have everything you need for creating a safe & entertaining cage for your parrot.
-
Stress Management: Use gentle touch training and avoid cuddling to manage hormonal fluctuations.
-
Routine: Establish a daily routine with consistent sleep, feeding, and play times to help your parrot adjust to the new season. Our birds are woken each morning at 8am & put to bed at 6pm each day.
By following these tips, you can help your parrot enjoy a healthy and happy Spring. Remember to consult with an Avian Vet for any specific concerns or needs your parrot may have.
As always we do wing & nail trims on weekends only, no appointment necessary! We are also fully open for boarding! Call ahead to schedule your boarding dates & to verify we have openings, and if your testing is still current. If your testing was done more than 3 years ago you’ll need to retest. Thank you for your understanding. When dropping off for boarding please arrive at least 2 hours before closing so birds (& employees) have time to get settled.
